access to personal credit information
I am in default on several credit cards. The companies I am owing have sent my accounts to the collection agencies . I gave permission to allow the companies access to my credit report etc. This was done when I applied for the cards years ago . Now that I am in default, I don’t want then having access . I feel any of this information would benefit them and make it harder for me.I understand there is new legislation in place in Canada (example the PIPEDA Act). Can I send a letter to them and inform them that I withdraw my permission to access my information ? Can I do this ? If I can is there any reason that I should ,or I am wasting my time ? Cheers ..interesting and informative site.

You may want to consult a lawyer who is more familiar with PIPEDA and other similar legislation, but due to the fact that you owe them money and gave them permission to access these reports I don’t think it would be of any value. The intent of the credit reporting system is to provide each lender to this type of information and I would be very surprised if any privacy legislation would be able to circumvent this right.
