Creditor harrassing spouse at work!

Is it legal for a creditor to harrass a spouse if that party has nothing to do with the other spouse’s bad short fall on trying to maintain his debts? I was told I could loose my job if these persistent calls happen at my workplace and I have no ties whatsoever to my spouses debt?

The specific rules collection agents must follow depend on which province you live. But for the most part the collection agent can only contact your spouse’s place of work to verify they have the correct contact information for the debtor. For more information you can contact the Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Relations and request a copy of their free brochure “A Consumer’s Guide to Collection Agencies” at 1-800-268-1142.
