If we own a house but currently rent it out while we ourselves live in a rented house due to moving to another city for work : are we still entitled to the exemption amount for the house? (in B.C.)if we were to file for bankruptcy?

No, unfortunately, the legislation is very clear and to be eligible to claim the principle residence exemption you must be living in the house.
