Utilities

What happens to phone, electricity, internet and cable utilities in the event of a bankruptcy? My utility bills are all paid-up but its my student loan and legal fees that are pushing me into bankruptcy again. I use my home internet for working and I hope I can keep that.

Also, under current laws, how long is somebody considered in bankruptcy if its their second bankruptcy?

Thanx

You are not required to include your utility accounts in your bankruptcy filing – you will simply keep paying the bill and they will continue to provide you with service.

If you have already filed bankruptcy once and are considering a second filing then be prepared for it to run significantly longer – how long depends on the practice of the local Court in your area. I suggest you use our search feature to find a trustee in your area and give them a call.
