House, vehicle and university students

My life partner is not legally divorced. His name and his wife’s name is on the mortgage. The govt has put in action that his house will be sold for an outstanding tax debt. We have 4 children (young adults) in the home, 1 in high school, 1 about to attend post-secondary, 1 in college and 1 in university. Is there any way we can stop the sale of the house to provide shelter for the children still living with us. The mortgage has always be paid.

Unfortunately, there isn’t sufficient information about your situation for me to provide any concrete opinions. From my perspective the only thing I can assume is that there is some type of tax outstanding that is resulting in the government pursuing this type of action. If this is the case you may be able to file a
proposal or a bankruptcy, but you would need to contact a licensed trustee locally and provide him with more details relating to the action in question. Then he would be in a much better position to explain these an any other alternatives you may have.
