Student loan debt

i have a student loan from 1992. i haven`t made a payment on the loan since 2005 because i haven`t been able to. i used to receive statements from some government agency monthly, but i haven`t received anything in almost a year now. i don`t want to file for bankruptcy as i`m just now starting to get my feet on the ground again. what would be the status of the loan now? and how do i deal with it from here? thanks
