CRA review during undischarged bankruptcy

November 5th, 2012 by Questions

Hi there I recently received a CRA review to verify my current marital status. (child tax credit department). I am currently in a undischarged bankruptcy. They would like me to verify from 2009-present and include all supporting documents. I would like to know if the CRA is in fact barred from requesting any verification prior to my bankruptcy start date? So I filed may of 2011. I have been separated since aug 2009. Should I speak with a lawyer before i send any info? thanks

CRA isn’t barred from anything as long as you remain undischarged. I would recommend you either contact your trustee to be reappointed, or cooperate with CRA as they have enhanced collection rights and can end up causing you a great deal of trouble.
