An automatic discharge occurs when you have successfully completed all the duties and responsibilities that are associated with a bankruptcy. The discharge is the actual event that finalizes your bankruptcy and releases you from your debt. It is referred to as automatic when you have completed everything within the required time frames and therefore there is no need to go to court.
