worried

I am still paying off my mothers funeral but I will soon have to declare bankruptcy as my debts have become unmanageable! Can I include this debt as well? I have been told that this kind of debt is exempt.

This is a good issue for you to discuss when you meet with a local trustee . But traditionally funeral costs don’t survive a bankruptcy. There is special treatment of funeral claims when dealing with a deceased bankrupt, but obviously that wouldn’t apply to you.

So if you file for bankruptcy this will be a debt that is listed with all of your others.
