landed immigrant

My husband I split up do to abuse. He has threatened me that he will claim bankruptcy. He is a british citizien not a Canadian. Can he do this?
Will he be deported?

A licensed trustee said...

As long as he was a resident of Canada he may file for bankruptcy here. It will not affect his immigrant status in this country.

If he does file you may be held responsible for any joint debts that you have – things you both signed for. You may want to talk to your family lawyer (whomever is handling the separation-divorce to see if you have any recourse in Family Court.
