If you win money?
September 3rd, 2007 by Questions
If you win an amount of money through a lottery before being discharged from bankruptcy, do you have to give the entire amount over to the trustee then they give you the amount left over after your creditors are paid?
What if the lottery winnings add up a lot more than what you owe your creditors?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, all the proceeds from after acquired property such as lottery and inheritances received must be turned over to the trustee.
If there is sufficent funds to pay your trustee and your creditors in full plus 5% interest, then the remaining balance would be given back to the bankrupt upon discharge.
