Can I seek public office e.g. school trustee if I declared bankruptcy 20 years ago?

Yes you can seek public office if you were previously bankrupt.
As an example, in the recent election for mayor of Toronto, Stephen LeDrew was a candidate (he lost), and he was bankrupt in 2005.
