Spousal RRSP

May 6th, 2006 by Questions

I WENT BANKRUPT IN 2003. IN YEARS 1998 TO 2000 I CONTRIBUTED TO A SPOUSAL RRSP .AT THAT TIME I HAD INCOME TAX THAT WAS IN DISPUTE AND HAD FILED OBJECTION TO. CCRA IS CLAIMING I WAS OBLIGATED TO PAY DOWN THE TAX THAT WERE UNDER OBJECTION BEFORE CONTRIBUTING TO THE SPOUSAL RRSP. IS THIS TRUE AS THE REASSESSMENT NOTICE SAYS THAT YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY BUT THE TAX LIABILITY WOULD HAVE INTEREST ADDED? CCRA WANTS ME TO PAY THIS AMOUNT INTO THE ESTATE

This is a question that you should direct to someone who specializes in tax. I suggest you contact a CA or perhaps a tax lawyer as they would deal with these types of issues on more regular basis and would be much more familiar with the ramifications of this type of issue.
