I am sorry you find yourself in financial trouble as you prepare to retire. This won’t make you feel any better, but the “fastest growing” segment of the population that is filing bankruptcy is the senior community.
The average person we see has about $59,000 in unsecured debts – the average senior that calls us owes over $74,000. Seniors get hit with a double whammy – their income suddenly drops, but their expenses don’t necessarily change. When that happens they end up relying on credit to bridge the gap and then find themselves in really deep water.
Use the links on this site to find a trustee in your area to talk to. You’ve got options and the trustee will help you decide which solution makes the most sense for you.
