Bill C55/Chapter 47

June 1st, 2007 by Questions

Since the BQ apparently refused to allow fast tracking of the amendments to the above legislation, on May 30/07, it now must go through 1st, 2nd and 3rd readings in the House. Is there any reasonable estimate (or guestimate) whether this is likely to be done before The House adjourns for the summer?

I note that according th Hansard, the Minister of Labour, \”Hon\” Jean=Pierre Blackburn, in answering the BQ on May 31, refered to their refusal to support the fast tracking as \”too bad for you\”. Mr Blackburn should be ashamed of himself\” too bad for thousands of Canadians would be more like it.

Unfortunately we have been given no real estimate. From the position the legislation is in I would anticipate that we likely won’t see it approved this year and even if it were there will have to be at least a years delay prior to it becoming “active legislation,” thereby allowing the courts, the Superintendant of Bankruptcy and trustees to change all the administrative functions and practices that it will impact.
