Credit Counseling and Bankruptcy

October 6th, 2006 by Questions

I have been reading about credit counselling and I am confused. One site called says that you have to have mandatory credit counseling before filing bankruptcy, and you also must have post bankruptcy filing credit counseling.

But other sites seem to indicate that credit counselling happens during bankruptcy. I’m confused. How does credit counselling work?

In the United States, you must have proof of credit counseling before you can file for bankruptcy.

In Canada, there is a requirement that you attend two credit counselling sessions during the bankruptcy in order to be discharged.
