Co-signing a loan

July 30th, 2006 by Questions

I received an absolute discharge on my bankruptcy in May of this year. My son who is 18 and is currently working at a full time job is seeking a co-signer for a car loan. Am I able to co-sign for him?

Yes, there is nothing preventing you from doing this, however I always caution people to think twice prior to guaranteeing someone else’s debt (even a family member) as I have seen many situations where this causes substantial difficulties.
