Proposals still accepted by CRA ?

February 13th, 2007 by Questions

I recently read on another bankruptcy related web site that is was getting increasingly difficult to get the CRA to accept consumer proposals for income tax debt. Do you agree with this ? I’m a bit worried because I owe a large sum to the CRA (50K+) and want to file a proposal, I don’t want to file for bankruptcy.

Nationally, CRA has done some serious sbare rattling regarding proposals – that is probably what the other site was commenting on.

Locally, each tax office seems to be exercising a certain amount of discretion regarding proposals.

Contact a trustee in your area and ask them for their experience with the local tax office – I know that we have not experienced any changes in the last 12 months. In the areas that we operate proposals are quite acceptable to CRA.
