Retroactive Child Disability Benefit

January 14th, 2009 by Questions

Hi there. I was discharged from a bankruptcy 4 years ago. My child was recently approved for a child disability benefit and was awarded a retroactive benefit. Although Revenue Canada said the payment went to my trustee, Rev Canada also stated that since I was discharged for so long the payment should have gone to me for my child. Is this correct or will my bankruptcy file be reopened to pay all or part of this award to my past creditors? The amount is approximately $7,000. Thanks.

The answer to this largely depends on information only your trustee would have. So my recommendation is to call your trustee and ask this same question. They will quickly be able to provide you with an answer.
