which bank?

January 31st, 2008 by Questions

In your experience, after going through bankruptcy, which bank(s) are easiest/hardest to obtain credit through in the future? Is one easier or harder on past bankrupts than another? I`ve heard Scotibank and CIBC are the least likely to give credit if you`ve been bankrupt, and wonder how true it is.

Overall I find that a bank is a bank and they all have very similar lending criteria. Having said that the rumor from my end of things is that it is more difficult to get loans with Bank of Montreal, but if you are able to do it all the other banks automatically become easier to deal with (simply because they know that Bank on Montreal can be tough).

However, this is strictly rumor and more important than the insitution I find is the person you are dealing with. Look for a bank that will be willing to work with you and develop that relationship over time. That is the best way to proceed.
