I am currently in my 1st month of bankruptcy and looking at getting the BMO Prepaid card.
1. I had a BMO MC which was included in my bankruptcy, will I be denied the prepaid card?
2. Do I have to let my trustee know I have a prepaid card?
3. I have a TD bank account, how long does it take for the money to transfer to the prepaid card?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Hi..
When I first asked the bankruptcy trustees where we should start , the very first thing they told me was to get a new bank account at a new bank and if I had any money there it was intimated that it should be moved. Or if I had a paycheck automatically input to my account I may have trouble retrieving my funds. In my case my cards and accounts and my bankruptcy were with one bank so I pretty well had to move . In your case if you didn't owe the TD any money you may not have the same problem as I did. I would ask your trustee AND call another one to see if you get the same answer.
1. In my opinion you shouldn't have any trouble with getting a pre paid card because you are really using your own money BUT, the BMO might just take any funds and apply them to your bankruptcy. Because I don't trust banks and if it were me, I would get a Visa card and stay away from BMO.
2.Your trustee does not care either way that you have a pre paid card but if you were to get a regular card by some magical chance, they may have something to say about that. You have to remember that they are working for both you AND the other folks.
3.In my case the BMO people told me it would take 2-5 working days to transfer the money via the internet but both times that I transferred new funds into the card it's only taken 2 days.
The above are just my experiences and not legal opinions at all. Good luck!! Keep up with the paperwork too.
BTW...Thanks Wendy!!
