Does anyone know if Rev Canada is included in a proposal?,also is the limit going up from 70 grand of unsecured debt? Im at roughly 90,000 including my wife's...Rev canada has a garanshment on my pension of 50% and wants another 400 on top of that..my wife's job is slow and they are working 3 days a week, even though I have a pension, I went back to work and now it looks like I'll be laid off soon for about 8-9 months. Things are so stressful...its unreal how low you feel when creditors call wanting to know,,well, when are you going to make a payment...do we need to take legal action against you...seems like everything happens at the same time..and it sucks always being at your limit of over draft on top everything else....
if anyone has any answers it would be greatly appreciated...

Hello Jervic,

Yes, Revenue Canada is included in proposals. The one hang-up is that if RevCan is your largest creditor, they can easily keep your proposal from being approved because they very rarely vote "yes" to a proposal.

On the other hand, if RevCan is a smaller percentage of your proposal, their say in it will be swamped by other "yes" votes, as it was in my case.

The limit for a consumer proposal is being raised to $250,000 on September 18. It may work well for you if RevCan doesn't scuttle it.

A trustee can give you more information. There's no risk in going in for a chat.

Best wishes,
~Wendy

Hello...1st meeting today with trustee...was alot easier then what I had thought it would be.

Now to get the things done they requested..should take acouple of weeks, then our next meeting to sign the proposal, which was less then what we were willing to propose.

Hello Everyone...

Well we had our 2nd meeting a week ago, the person we were seeing, I thought was the trustee but turned out to be a client represenative,we see the actual trustee this coming Monday morning, at that time we are really hoping to sign the papers to get this thing going. With all the people needing help its taking longer then what we thought it would take. The nerves are really starting pop up,but we'll manage.
Thanks to everyone for their great advise and support..

Hi jervic!

You're almost there! Congratulations!   Smiley

Our situation was exactly the same. It turned out the man we were seeing was training to become a full trustee (his business card even said "Trustee") but when it came to signing the papers a more senior member of the firm had to attend. I don't think this made the process take any longer necessarily, but ours took exactly one month from the first meeting to the signing. Our nerves were popping as well, as our debts were accumulating almost $2000 of interest per month! Of course, trustees also deal with much bigger corporate matters, so $2000 a month probably sounds like nothing to them.

In any case, it'll all be tied up soon! Glad it's going smoothly.

Best wishes,
~Wendy

Today was the big day, talk about being nervous...but let me tell you, to anyone reading this post.Once we sat down with our trustee,it was very calming. It went so smooth and no hassle's.Our trustee was VERY nice and didn't make us feel guilty or anything. We went over the papers and signed about 20 of them,,told us it was a very good proposal and most likely we wouldn't have to come back, even though creditors have 45 days. The creditors we do have ,our trustee told us they all prefer proposal's to bankruptcy. So no news is good news according to her, and our first payment will be on the 1st of this month. My choice, instead of the 19th.So as long we get the majority to say yes we can start to breathe easier..Also, I called every creditor and 2 said we were great customers, and great people. and wished us luck, which shocked me.So we wait for the 45 days, hope all goes well and then start living again.

Just wanted to let anyone considering a proposal, when we got home from the signing of the proposal, I called everyone who I owed money too,and since that day,not one of them has called me,like they use to, at all times of the day or night..right up to 11pm and starting again on Sundays.I use to put the phone on do not disturb just to get some peace.I still feel guilty over not following up on my end of the agreement, but we ddin't expect to get hit so hard when the economy went into the tank. One last thing,2 days after signing the proposal, my pension garinsheement was lifted, from Rev Can.So if you really need to do this, and there is not much light at the end of your tunnel..don't be ashamed, life is tooooooooo short to be constantly worried  on how are we going to buy grociers this week..or clothes for the kids. From the day we started this until we signed all the papers, took one month and one day...good luck..

Just a follow up.....our proposal must have gone threw, we didn't hear anything from the trustee in the 45 day limit..and we are about to make our4th payment..seems weird not getting a stack of bills every month..and no bill collectors calling either.Rev Canada has not tried contacting us either, not one time.It is a great feeling that even though Im laid off..we are staying above water and making head way..Good luck to all who decide to do this.

Hi jervic!

Sounds very much like my own experience. Only one creditor called after my proposal was filed - someone in a boilerroom who didn't seem to know what a proposal was. In any case, it stopped very quickly - within two weeks. Some staemeents kept coming in the mail for a couple of months - then nothing, except one from Citibank that kept appearing and accumulating interest. I mentioned it to my trustee and he said not to worry - and then perhaps he contacted them because I never received another one. Likewise with RevCan - haven't heard a peep.

Glad things are going well!   Smiley

Thank-you for posting this thread. Today was the day in which I signed and filed for a consumer proposal. This week I felt very ashamed and I still do! I feel like I did not hold my end of the deal when it came to paying back my creditors. What prompted me to file is I owed back taxes to Revenue Quebec and CRA. CRA froze my bank account and that is when I panicked! It wouldn't be too long before RQ would do the same!

All this to say I am happy you are all able to breath and that your experience was not all that bad!
