I have not been here for awhile, and I apologize, this site was so excellent when we were trying to figure out what to do about our debt. Life have gotten busy, but I have come back and hopefully can help people who are considering this, and answer any questions I have. We ( my husband and I ) each filed a division I back in 2009, we had to file separatly as the debts were not all in both our names.
We will be completed the end of June ( my husband ) and the end of September( me.. I had a medical issue that forced me to have to leave my job, so I had to use a clause in my legal proposal contract that allowed me to defer 3 months, if my income substantially chagned, which it had.
Please ask any questions you want, I know how helpful the people here were when we were deciding what was the best route to take and what this all meant. We took a 3 year re-payment plan and it actually has gone very fast. I look forward to the end. I do have a question for others who have completed. What did you do, or what do you suggest ,m after completing a proposal, to start improving , and getting a positive credit rating. My thought is to get a secured credit card, is this something that will help?

Anyway, please ask me anything you want, I will anser as best as I can.
Regards. I

congrats on your upcoming completion of your proposal.   a secured credit card is a good way to start rebuilding your credit . Another good way is to ask for an RRSP or GIC loan banks generally will be more leniant if they have a secured investment backing the loan

Hiya

I have completed a cp and in 2 days it is off my credit report! I can't say what I did for one part of how to build credit but I can say is don't start applying for credit, you should wait till your done with the proposal and be done with it for at the very least a year to 2 years as it looks better to potential creditors, the secured credit card is suppose to be a good way to go, I have not applied for any new credit since completing my proposal like 3 years ago, I recently asked my bank (who I got a regular visa through) and not missed 1 payment for a credit increase and got approved no problem.

I lived without a car for those years and some other things, it may be difficult to get use too but than you see wow I can get by without these things, but that depends on your situation I guess. Smiley

I am half way through a 5 year CP and was able just recently to get a scured credit card from a company called Home Trust.
I did this in the hope that I can start rebuilding my credit now even though i'm only half way through my CP that way when i am done I will have some good credit history to start with.

I hope this was a good idea.  Has anyone else considered Home Trust?

I there,
I have never heard of them, will look online. I annoy interested in applying for any credit, to be honest, but if a secured card is a way to reestablish credit, I suppose I could. I am going to ask my proposal company , once we are completed, what they suggest.  How do you find that credit card company? I am really surprised at how fast this has gone by, and of course, once we are done, we have the high monthly payments we have been paying, to keep. We have decided to put the majority of each payment into some sort of savings. We've lived without that money for 3 years, may as well keep it up.
I'll be interested as to how you find the Home Trust company

I started my proposal in sept 2010 and apply for a Home trust in March 2011.  You can find all the information on line by google Home Trust.  Other than the cash, the only item I needed was a letter from my Trustee that says we were in good standing with in our proposal.  It took about 3 week to receive the card.  This is an excellent was to rebuild your credit.

There is also Capital one that offers a secure credit card (If they were not ibn you list of creditor) and TD (For TD you have to go at the branch.

I make sure to use my card every month, and to repay everything before the due date,  I will wait another year and ask for my credit score, to see if it is going up.

I am looking forward to living without this payment.

Good luck
