Hello, I have almost reached my 2 yrs discharge ( Oct 4 of this year) Grin

I have a loan for an RRSP of 7,000 ( real bank too) , I had a loan for a car (18 month) and it is paid off.  I also have a small secure credit card of 500.00.

Yesterday, my husband and I were approved for a mortgage!!!  Yaaaaa!!!

I am the only one who went bankrupt in the family.  I want to get a real credit card ( not secure).  I live in Quebec, any ideas were I can possibly get one??  Help is appreciated....  my credit score is around the 615 mark.

Thanks

Mikki

Congratulations Mikki, on your 'success' story. It sounds like you are doing everything right to get your financial health back on track.  Congratulations on obtaining a mortgage too. You are investing in yourself and your future by owning a home.

From what I've read....credit card companies will look at your credit file and see how capable you are in paying your credit card. They'll see that you have RRSPs..even though you have a loan for them....your secured credit card is a good sign too, that you're handling credit properly....and now with a mortgage...it's going to show them that you are a dependable person.  Those are all good indications that you're credit worthy.

Of course, they will know that you went through a bankruptcy....but as we all know...it was a positive step to improve your life. Did you try applying for an unsecured credit card from the the same bank that lent you the mortgage, or lent you the money for the RRSPs?

I think it will be a matter of just applying and seeing what happens. I haven't been bankrupt myself...so I don't have any experience in this, I'm just relating to you what I've read.

Good luck, and keep up the great work!!!

Now with a mortgage... Want to show them that you are a reliable person. These are good signs that you credit value...

Did you get an unsecured credit card ? If yes, which one ?

Capital One and Canadian Tire are supposed to be easy to get.

Let me know ... ;-)
