So hoping to make this as short and sweet as possible. 19 years old, going to college full time, no job, went to my bank to get an overdraft of $100 so when I ran out of food I could get some more. That turned into a $500 visa, which gave me the credit to go into every store in town and get their $1,000 credit card. Which I probably maxed 8 months down the road, and was mostly making all my miniumum payments ontime, but was only paying interest off, so went into my local bankruptcy office when I was almost 21, and she said yes this would be good for you to do, explained that my 16,000 student loan would not be covered at all, which I totally understand. So the next 9 months go by and February 2008, I get a letter that I have been discharged.
March 2010 Rolls along, and I decide that I should maybe do a check in with Equifax so I phone and I give all the required information, and I ask the representative on the phone to please tell me everything that currently as of today owe. He named off everything that was included in my bankruptcy. So I am absolutely panicked now, I get him to mail me my report, now the reports say included in bankruptcy, but why are they still showing? I got ahold of one of the creditors on that list, and he told me to contact them when I was discharged, I explained that I have been discharged for over 2 years. He then told me he could no longer discuss this with me, I would have to phone my trustee. Which of course I do, and she tells me that there is nothing she can do.
So onto the next creditor, she was very nice, she pretty much said the same thing, but asked me to give her the number to my trustee, which I did. She phoned me back within the hour, and told me she talked with my trustee and I was indeed discharged, and she wiped that debt.
I have also refaxed my certificate of discharge to both Equifax and Trans Union in hopes that this will maybe resolve what is still lingering around.
So basically I am just hoping that somebody might have some answers on what to do, my main goal is to have a mortgage by the time I am 30 (4.5 years to go), but want to start rebuilding it now, but I don't want to try, and then it backfire because I still have so much negatives on my credit. Any input is appriciated. Thanks for reading!
