If I had a credit card with certian banks, and then declared bankruptcy, would those banks let me open a chequing or savings account account with them?

There is no rule or law stopping the banks from doing so, BUT in my experience they are not likely to do so. We advise all of our clients to open new accounts at a financial institution that they have not had prior dealins with BEFORE they file for bankruptcy or a proposal. I know it is inconvenient to switch banks, but if you don’t y9ou run the risk of the bank seizing or freezing your account after you file and that is much more inconvenient…
