Collection agency tactics

By law, can collection agencies continue to look for you assets once bankruptcy or proposal has been started?

Seems they are continuing to contact some financial institutions to find out if assets exist (although I thought banks could not divulge who has accounts with them).

As soon as you file a consumer proposal or a bankrutpcy there is an immediate stay of proceedings that is in place and this stay of proceedings removes the ability of any of the creditors to make any collection attempts withouth the permission of the trustee.

However, there is nothing preventing the collection agency of investigating details concerning your situation to verify that the Statement of Affairs is correct (within reason) as long as they are not making any collection attempts. If this collection agent continues to call you then you should notify your trustee.
